October on San Juan Island – Fall at its Finest

We call October the Secret Season on San Juan Island, because it feels a little like you are getting away with something. The long, gorgeous San Juan Island Autumns often sport Summer temperatures and sunshine until late into the month. First Friday Art Walk

Every first Friday of the month Friday Harbor’s galleries and shops will stay open late for an Art Walk! Meander through our sweet, walkable town, look out for the window decals and take plenty of cocktail and dessert breaks along the way.

Saturday Farmer’s Market

Bathe in the autumn abundance, stock up on island-made fare and crafts, listen to free live music and get some fresh flowers for your room.

Pool & Spa Day

Turn inward this Fall and take a day to take care of yourself. Swim in our heated, indoor pool, lounge in the hot tub and sauna with your favorite book, before getting a rejuvenating facial and relaxing massage at our cute spa (advanced reservations are a must).

Friday Harbor Documentary Film Festival – October 24 to October 27

Experience the magic of storytelling at the acclaimed Friday Harbor Film Festival. Come for an unforgettable cinematic experience and dive into the world of compelling documentaries and inspiring films, complete with awards and director talks after every film, a fancy gala, and its all within walking distance of our Friday Harbor hotel.

Guided Whale Watching Tour

October is the last month of the year to explore whales and wildlife on a guided whale watching tour. Besides Orcas, keep your eyes out for Humpbacks feeding before their long journey to Hawaii. See the first loons, Trumpeter swans and snow owls arriving to spend their Winter here with us.

Farm-to-Table Dinner at COHO – October 11, 2024

Treat yourself to the Freemark Abbey Wine Dinner at the adorable COHO Restaurant. COHO will show-case five wines from Freemark Abbey – one of Napa’s oldest wineries - paired with a sumptuous five-course dinner, plus dessert, made from seasonal, island-grown ingredients. Reservations are a must.

Fall Foliage Hikes

Head out to English Camp National Historical Park and walk amongst the big leaf maples, Garry oaks and madronas as they turn the most stunning colors. Climb Mount Grant and watch raptors elegantly ride the thermals. Take a stroll through the San Juan Island Sculpture Park to explore art, the lush forest along the beautiful Westcott Bay, and the newly planted Red Woods and Sequoias along the property line to preserve those majestic trees for future generations.
